Budgeting

If this is your first time planning to have a deck built, you may not be aware of the costs associated with having one installed.

There are so many factors that go into a deck's cost, such as material choices and layout, and almost every deck has unique details that can affect that cost. There isn't any one-size-fits all strategy for estimating the cost of your deck, but it always helps to have some rough budgeting numbers, so that you have an idea of what to expect.

In order to help customers get an idea of what they may be able to afford, we have provided some very rough ranges of what different types of decks cost, based on their square footage. Unique shapes and designs will tend to fall in the high ends of these ranges, whereas basic shapes and fewer details will fall on the lower ends. Additional features such as covering below the deck, adding a pergola/planter/bench, or adding gates to railings/skirting, will bring costs up as well.

As a reference, you can expect to spend anywhere from $65-$100+ per square foot for a deck made with artificial or composite material, $35-$55+ per square foot for a deck made of treated pine, or $45-$75+ per square foot for a deck made of Western Red Cedar.
